Critical Gaming Lab Challenges Criminal Justice Students' Thinking

Criminal justice students have unique opportunities at EKU. They are mentored by faculty who push them to ask questions and closely examine the world around them. One of the most unique areas in the EKU College of Justice & Safety is the EKU Critical Gaming Lab, which is under the direction of EKU instructor Dr. Kishonna Gray.

Through the gaming lab, students review console games such as Playstation and Xbox and closely examine the virtual worlds they portray. Themes such as racism and sexism are among the topics Gray helps her students examine. “Video games today give a very distorted representation of a lot of groups within this country. With the gaming lab, we’re beginning to challenge that,” said Gray.
